This week, our focus topic was 'All about me'. We have created some lovely self portraits that will be going on our display board. learnt about pictograms in maths and described ourselves in English. We also had lots of fun drawing eachother through plastic frames! In RE, we learnt about the ascension and created a huge collage.
This week, we have been focusing on the topic 'Growth', and have explored how plants grow. We planted our own cress heads and they are starting to grow nicely. We have been looking at the inside of fruit and vegetables to see how they have grown and dissected flowers, to see what the different parts are for. We have also had the fantastic opportunity to take part in Balancability this week. The children have thoroughly enjoyed this experience and will be receiving their certificates soon.
This week, we finished of our theme 'Night and Space'. Our focus book was 'Man on the Moon' and we based our English, Maths and Science learning on it. In English, the children described a day in the life of Bob ( the man on the moon), while also sharing what they would do if they could visit the moon. Maths was focused on doubling this week. The class became fascinated with the moon, so we decided to include some science experiments to finish the topic of nicely. Our first experiment was to find out how the moon shines light onto Earth at night time. We did this by using a ball wrapped in tinfoil, the Earth and a torch. This experiment worked very well and the children enjoyed making the moon glow. We also learnt about the phases of the moon and showed this using oreos. Of course we had to try one or two as well!
Year R Talent Show
The children decided to hold a talent show today! They all thought carefully about their talents and practised very hard before showing us all. They were absolutely fantastic and we would like to share a performance with you.
The second book we looked at for our theme 'space and Night', was 'Whatever Next'. This story really encouraged the children to use their imaginations and talk about what they would do if they visited the moon! Our English task was to list the items they would take to the moon and why? Maths, envolved the children working on their sharing skills.
At the beginning of this term, we introduced out new topic ' Space and Night' by having a pyjama day. The first story book we looked at was 'How to Catch a Star', and used this text throughout our English and Maths learning sessions. The children were challenged to use their estimating and problem solving skills to find a way to catch the star that was hanging in our outside classroom. The children were amazing at this and were very inventive with their ideas. They were then asked to describe their star catching experience for their English session and produced some lovely writing.
