Our Catholic Life

At St Edward’s Catholic Primary School, the Catholic faith is at the heart of everything we do. Our mission is not only to provide an excellent education but to nurture every child as a unique and precious individual, created and loved by God. We are a community rooted in Gospel values we strive each day to bring these values to life in our words, actions, and relationships.

Our school environment reflects our Catholic identity in meaningful and purposeful ways. Daily prayer, liturgy, and collective worship are central to our rhythm as a community, giving children opportunities to encounter God, reflect spiritually, and celebrate their faith

Living out our faith also means living it joyfully. At St Edward’s, children learn to care for one another, support their local community, and respond to the needs of the wider world. Through charitable outreach, social action, support for each other, and a culture of kindness, we encourage every child to recognise their responsibility to make a difference. Our Catholic identity shapes not only what we teach, but how we treat each other—fostering a school family where every person is valued, included, and encouraged to flourish.

St. Edward's Denominational Inspection Report March 2020: We are so proud that our school has been graded GOOD, with an OUTSTANDING Catholic life in the school.

Mini Vinnies

At St Edward's, we are proud to have an active Mini Vinnies group, which is the junior branch of the St Vincent de Paul Society. Mini Vinnies are children who come together to put their faith into action by helping those in need within our school and wider community.

What Do Mini Vinnies Do?

Mini Vinnies follow the example of St Vincent de Paul, showing kindness, compassion, and service to others. Their role includes:

  • Helping Others – Supporting local charities, organising food collections, and raising awareness of important social issues.
  • Living Out Our Faith – Encouraging prayer and reflection, as well as leading assemblies and Celebrations of the Word.
  • Taking Action – Running fundraising events, visiting those in need, and spreading messages of hope and kindness.
  • Working Together – Collaborating with teachers, parish members, and the wider community to make a real difference.

Jubilee Year of Hope

Throughout the Year of Hope St. Edward's became Pilgrims of Hope. This included receiving the Diocese Jubilee Candle for our CEO, Annemarie Whittle.

Diocesan Mass at St. George's Cathedral

On Wednesday 24th September, Mrs Kinslow, Mrs Horsfield and several of the school worship leaders attended the mass at St. George's Cathedral. We visited Oscar Romero's Cross and considered how he gave his life to God: speaking out against injustice and striving to achieve the common good.

CAFOD Assembly

We welcomed representatives from CAFOD who led an assembly on social justice and how we their work is supporting people across the world have access to clean water.

We received a response from the CAFOD representative, following his visit to St. Edward's...

Thank you for the opportunity to share the morning assembly with your children and your colleagues.

Please extend my sincere thank you to all of the children. I was so impressed by all of the work that you have done relative to Catholic Social Teaching and the to understand that the children had extended their learning to the highest office of government is ever so impressive.

I was also full of admiration when my two senior escorts gave me to understand that that would have much preferred the Prime minister to have written personally rather than directing an official to respond. I agreed with them. And Should any opportunity arise, I will not forget to act on their behalf because all of your young students are the future of the world that we hope for.

So, thank you again and I am looking forward to seeing any invitation to return.

Easter Passion Play

During Holy Week, Year 3 and 4 performed an Easter Passion play to the whole school, parents, families as well as other members of the community.
