Happy New Year from Year 1!

We tucked in to our learning straightaway as we made vegetable stew as a hook for our English. We will be studying the book Wombat Stew and will be writing narratives and poems.

In Maths we finished learning about shape - we recognised shapes, made shapes, sorted shapes, and created shape patterns. We will now learn about numbers to 20 and use them to add and subtract.

In RE we learned about Islam. We designed prayer mats for Muslims to use when they pray.

We learned about animals in Science and thought about the different animals we know. In Geography we are learning about the continent Australia. We located Australia on maps and atlases and wrote facts.

We thought about how unique we all are in RHE this week. God made us all to be different and special. We drew pictures of things that are special to us and put them in 'My Special Box.'

PE is gymnastics and we have been learning specific moves such as the straight, straddle and tuck.

In Music this month we have been learning about how we can make animal sounds using percussion instruments. Scroll down to watch us perform as snakes, elephants, cats, bees, and even a sloth!

NSPCC Number Day - Friday 2nd February 2024

We celebrated NSPCC Number Day by coming to school dressed as numbers to raise money for the important children's charity. The day was all about numbers and we enjoyed using our outside learning areas including the forest.

We used natural objects to make numbers to 20 and practiced our number bonds by finding bonds to 20 in chalked tens frames. In the afternoon we reminded ourselves of the commutative law by colouring bonds to 20 then learned about tallies and observed the environment around us to tally birds, trees and circles.

End of Term 3 Celebration of Learning

Thank you  to all the adults who were able to attend the celebration, the children loved showing off their Term 3 learning.
