St Edward's Catholic Primary School

Term 2

We love to celebrate our learning at St-Edwards so please take a look at our amazing work from term 1

We have swiftly settled back into term 2 and we are enjoying learning about our new topics.

This term we are learning the following:

Science: The use of everyday materials.

History: The Great Fire of London

DT: Mechanisms

RE: The Mystery of God, and Sikhism.

RHE: Me, my body and my health.

We continue to develop our skills in all areas of Maths and English.

Week 1

In Maths we continue to develop our place value skills and addition and subtraction techniques.

In Science we have begun exploring materials, this week we went hunting for materials around school.  We found lots of different things that were made from wood, plastic, metal, paper, card, glass and rubber.

We have enjoyed creating firework acrostic poems this week. Here is an example of our wonderful work....

Week 2

This week we remembered all the soldiers that died in the war and took part in a whole school assembly.

This week in science we have been using different materials to make the Three Pigs house. We predicted whether Straw, sticks or bricks would make the strongest house and then tested our predictions.

In DT we have been learning all about mechanisms. We created these Great Fire of London replica houses using split pins to make the fire move.

Week 3

This term in ICT we are learning to code, the children have really enjoyed inputting algorithms to control characters and make them do specific things.

In the last 2 weeks we have been working hard to plan and write the story of the Three Little Pigs. Take a look at this amazing story, we hope you enjoy the alternative ending.

We have been looking a bit deeper at materials this week and focussed on properties. Our challenge was to explore the materials and decide what material other than glass would make a good window.

This week in Maths we have been learning to represent addition and subtraction without manipulatives.

In History we continue to learn about The Great Fire of London - this week we focussed on the timeline of events.

Week 4

We had great fun this week in science. We conducted an experiment to see which paper makes the best flower.
