St Edward's Catholic Primary School

Term 1

Our Learning

Year 3 have had a fantastic start to the academic year!

In Science, we have been learning about plants, and we set up some experiments to see how water transports through a plant, and how a plant grows in different conditions.

In Maths, we have looked at place value, with links to money, and we have also focussed on different strategies we can use to add and subtract mentally.

In English, we started the term looking at Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', using the story to create character descriptions and instructions for magical potions. We have also now begun to look at the story of 'The Twits' by Roald Dahl, with the intention of writing an alternate narrative, using this story for structure.

In PE, we have been going swimming each week, and it has been so much fun! The children have developed and progressed their skills in so many ways, and we are excited to go back to swimming later this academic year.

In Geography, we have been looking at the world and the UK, with particular focuses on topographical maps and capital cities, comparing and reasoning the links between population and climate.
