To celebrate British Science Week, we had a whole day of science organised by our trust! We linked up with all of the classes in our phase across the trust to be set an exciting investigation. We then had time to experiment before coming back together to feed back to each other and listen to what other schools had found out. It was a really fun and exciting event and great fun was had by all!
In Years 1 and 2, we looked at waterproofing to help Little Red Riding Hood make her cape more waterproof. We had to understand why she was getting wet and then looked at different materials we could use to stop the rain from coming in! We then completed our investigation and talked to all of the schools in the trust!
In Years 3 and 4 we were investigating tyres - what we should coat a tire in to make it roll the furthest. To investigate, we used bottles in place of the tyres and a variety of materials like sandpaper, bubble wrap, tinfoil and paper. It was very surprising that sandpaper went the furthest - until Mrs. Rowse realised we had put the smooth side facing out because it gave us better results! We also talked to the whole trust about our investigation and were even complimented for considering why our investigation was fair or unfair!
In Years 5 and 6 we looked at running a marble down a ramp. We had to design a run that would take the marble the longest amount of time to get to the bottom. This was very frustrating as we found the marble either stopped moving (a failed attempt!) or was too quick for our liking! We also had the opportunity to discuss findings with other schools and were very interested to find one school made the marble take over 20 seconds!
