Term 2- What happened during the Great Fire of London?
This term, Year 2 will be learning about where London is in the UK and recognise its location next to the River Thames. We will learn about where the fire began and understand why it spread across the city so quickly. We will learn about how the fire was stopped and what changes were made to London as a consequence of the disaster. We will compare life in London to how it is today.
This term, Year 2 are learning about famous explorers. They are studying Neil Armstrong and Kathy Sullivan- the first man and woman to walk on the moon and Tim Peake- the first British man to live on the International Space Station. Through their experiences, we are able to learn more about Earth and Space.
Term 6- When was the first flight on the Isle of Sheppey?
In term 6, we will consider the first inventors to make a successful aeroplane, using enquiry to identify, ask and answers questions. We will learn about the successful flight, by the Wright brothers, and how they influenced the flight in Sheppey. Describing significant events throughout history, we will learn about how Sheppey was used to trial planes and develop aviation. Extending our knowledge, we will look at additional significant people: identifying how flight has developed- making it a safe and popular way to travel around the world; recognising the link to make travel possible to and from space.
