Home Learning
At St Edward’s we value the importance of parental engagement and involvement in education as we see how much it enhances children’s love of learning and improvement at school.
Reading
All children from Reception through to Year 6 will be encouraged to read daily at home. This should be recorded on Boom Reader for monitoring by the class teacher. Reading is by far the most important homework any child can do. If you are finding it hard to manage time at home for completing all home learning – make sure that reading is always given priority.
English and Maths
St Edward's is signed up to EdShed which is an online learning platform. Your children all have a login code which they can use at home. They will need access to a tablet/smart phone/computer in order to complete. Once logged in, they will be able to access the ‘assignments’ set. There will be an assignment for both English through Spelling shed and Maths through the Maths shed or Timestables Rockstars/Numbots. These will be in the form of online games to complete.
How often?
Children will be set assignments on the Friday based on work completed during that week and it will be expected to be completed by the following Thursday. Again, teachers will be able to monitor home learning engagement and children will be awarded dojo points for participation.
Need help?
If you are unable to access the online platform, we can help. The teacher can make a paper copy of work available to your child. This will need to be returned a little earlier (Wednesday) so that class teachers have time to look at it and return. If you need any further assistance regarding home learning, please speak with your child’s class teacher.
