St Edward's Catholic Primary School

Year 6

Year 6 have been learning about Evolution and Inheritance. They learn the difference between adapting to your surroundings and evolving over many generations. They also looked at a model for evolution using a bird beak investigation. Lastly, they found out about fossils: what they are and why they are useful to us.

Year 6 have been learning about Living Things and Their Habitats. This involves them looking at Carl Linnaeus and his classification system before learning how to create a classification tree with sweets. To help Year 6 consolidate their working scientifically skills, they've designed and carried out their own investigation into how best to grow mould, considering fair testing and how they will report their findings.

Year 6 are learning about Animals Including Humans - with specific reference to the circulatory system. They began by learning what the system was and where it is in the body. The followed this by learning about the job of the heart and the blood. Year 6 had particular fun making blood smoothies to help them understand the components and what they do in the blood.
