This term, Year 2 will be studying maps and using the four points of the compass to describe position. We will revise the seven continents and five oceans from Year 1 learning: introducing the equator and hot climates that are found here. We will learn the four countries of the UK and know the water that surrounds it. We will learn the names of the capital cities and be able to find Sheerness in the South East of England. We will look at London and begin to understand the significance of the River Thames. This river study will be continued in our beach school activity- looking at the Estuary at Sheerness.
This term, Year 2 will be joining Beach Schools. In term 1, They will visit Sheerness beach and learn more about our local environment linked to the Thames Estuary.
This term, Year 2 will be studying the continent of Africa. We will be learning about Egypt and know that it is hot because it lies on the equator. We will be learning about the weather, human and physical landmarks as well as the animals that live in different habitats. We will learn about the River Nile and know that the river is important for lie in Egypt. We will learn about indigenous people and how they link to Ancient Egypt. We will also begin to look and food, trade and tourism.
Term 5- How is Sheerness similar and different to Luxor (Egypt)?
In term 5, we will continue or study of rivers and waterways and consider the infrastructure that enables us to travel across water. We will learn about the River Nile and recognise that communities settle along its path to grow food but also to transport goods around the world. We will learn about the city Luxor and compare to life in the town of Sheerness. We will develop our understanding that people live in different places around the world and that the climate and landforms will offer different opportunities.
