Week 7

What a week of Christmas preparations and celebrations!

We performed our KS1 Nativity 'A Miracle in Town'  to parents and school friends on Tuesday morning and afternoon. The whole school came together on Wednesday afternoon with Father Aklilu and Deacon Paul to celebrate Mass.

Thursday was full of festivities as we came to school in Christmas jumpers and had our annual Christmas dinner. In the afternoon we were visited by a very special guest - Father Christmas!!

On Friday we made jointed Mary dolls as we learned how Mary is our mother too.

Week 6

The KS1 Nativity performance is getting closer so this week we have been busy practising our songs and the parts some of us in Year 1 have. Below are some photos of our costumes.

In English we have written our hot task recount on our visit to Sheerness war memorial. We tried our best using capital letters and full stops in our sentences. Maths has been all ab out shape. This week we have learned to name and recognise 3D shapes. We built 3D shape towers and made shapes out of playdough.

In Science we have continued to learn about materials as we identified the properties of materials. Did you know wood can be bumpy and smooth?

We learned about algorithms in Computing; we followed simple instructions to sort shapes on Purple Mash.

In RE we learned more about the Nativity. We talked about the shepherds being the first visitors to Baby Jesus and made Nativity scenes to show this.

On Thursday we were very lucky to have a pantomime in school. We dance and clapped along to the story of Cinderella.

Week 5

This week we have been preparing for Christmas. We have spent time making Christmas wreaths and Christmas photo key-rings as part of enterprise for our stall at the Christmas Fair.

We also prepared our class worship focusing on Christingle. We taught the school and parents about what a Christingle is and how to make one. Thank you to all the grown ups who were able to attend.

We have almost come to the end of our addition and subtraction learning for Term 2 and have used pictorial representations by crossing out to subtract and have used number lines to add and subtract.

We learned about past tense in English to help us write our recounts.

In Computing we learned to make music on our laptops, and made Nativity diaramas in Art.

This year we had the KCSP Christmas cards winner in Year 1; our very own Mila! Her Christmas card design was inspired by the work of Alma Thomas who we studied during Black History Month and the Nativity. The design has been printed and made into cards which will be sent out to all the schools within the trust.

A huge congratulations to a very worthy winner.

Week 4

We have been practising our arithmetic in Maths this week and have shown how we can reason and problem solve. In English we have continued to write a recount about our local visit.

In History we looked at photos to decide how toys have changed - did you know that children used to play lots of games together but nowadays we can play with toys such as hand held consoles by ourselves?

We have been learning how to prepare for the arrival of Jesus and in RE we thought of ways in which we could prepare ourselves. We painted an Advent wreath using our hands and arms!

Week 3

We have linked our learning in Maths, Science and History this week - we used our Maths skill of sorting toys, and we used our Science knowledge of materials to help us work out if the toys were old or new in our History lesson.

Anti-Bullying Week 13th - 17th November 2023

This year the theme was 'Make a Noise About Bullying.' We learned what bullying is and thought about ways in which we can help. We made posters to help others recognise and make a noise about bullying. They will be displayed in the hall.

Friday 17th November

This week we supported Children in Need by dressing up in our pyjamas. We brought in food donations which the school council collected. These will be given to the local food bank which supports local families in need

Week 2

This week in Year 1 we were very lucky to go on a local visit and have a workshop in school. On Friday morning we visited Sheerness War Memorial to remember the soldiers who died to keep us safe. We laid a cross and looked for names on the memorial wall.

In the afternoon, Maidstone Museum visited and ran a workshop in our class on 'Toys Through Time.' We learned about toys from before we were born, the materials they were made from and we even got to play with them!

Week 1

We have returned to school after the half term break and our outside area is now open for use! We have been very excited to use this area to support our learning; keep an eye on our class page for future updates!

In English we have begun learning about poetry and will be writing list poems about Remembrance. We recited traditional poems to start our learning. Click on the links below to see some of our recitals.

In Maths we are learning to use our bond knowledge to subtract; we have bee using concrete objects and pictures to help us.

We are learning Dance this term in PE and have begun to think about starting and final pieces for our performances. In Computing we are learning to group and sort; our Maths skills have helped with this. In History this term we are learning about Remembrance and Toys. We answered the question 'What happened before we were born?' by creating a timeline. We included events within living memory and plotted when our parents and grandparents were born.

At the top of the page you will find our homework for the term. Complete as many pieces of work as you can and let us know all about it.
