Term 3

Here is our term leaflet

Our homework for this term:

Our learning displays from Term 3.

We had a lovely parent event where our parents came to share our learning with us: it was great fun showing what we now know!

We shared our learning with our grown ups in a class assembly. We were really nervous but were actual superstars - we were amazing!

We finished our art project of printing fabric with a repeat pattern of fruit. Here they are.

This week, we had a special visit from the fire station. We learnt all about keeping safe around fire and how to check the batteries in our smoke alarms at home.

We celebrated Number Day today! We came to school dressed as numbers and completed a whole range of activities based around number, especially practising our times tables.

In Music, we've been learning about motifs and repeating sections of music. We practised a song with a repeating section and played glockenspiels with our singing.

In Art, we are learning about fabric printing. To start, we learnt what printing was and made our own to get identical copies. Then, we used fabric to see the difference between printing on paper and on fabric.

In PE, we are looking at balancing skills. We started by working on our own individual balance before moving to partner balance.

This term, we are using Edward Lear's The Owl and The Pussycat poem to inspire our writing. To help us, we learnt the poem by heart and have been performing it everyday to remind us of the story.

We have then written our own poems in Lear's style.

In RE, we are looking at Jesus, The Teacher. We started by learning about His Presentation in the Temple and wondered about Mary and Joseph's conversation on the way home. We then moved on to Jesus being lost and later found the Temple, thinking about how Mary would have felt.

In Maths, we've been learning to divide by 10. To help us, we used Base 10 manipulatives to exchange hundreds for tens so we could count them.

In Geography, we've started studying the country of Italy. We began by locating it in the world and then zooming in on this to locate it in Europe. We then looked at its longitude and latitude coordinates and its neighbouring countries and seas.

In Art, we have started a unit on printing. To start, we collected materials we could print with and then practised making prints, finding out that it is more difficult to get exact copies than we thought!

In RE, we've learnt about another religion: Buddhism. This week, we learnt about the Eightfold Path that Buddha teaches about. To help us learn and remember them, we acted them out to the class and had to guess what each pathway was. We then created our own eightfold paths for what we felt were important rules to live by.

We took a trip to church this week, celebrating Mass at St. Henry and St. Elizabeth with Father Aklilu and Deacon Paul. We were very excited to see the crib too, as Jesus has arrived in it!

What a busy start we had to term 3! In Science, we began learning about animals including humans. We learnt about our teeth by observing our own and making sculptures of each of the different teeth, ensuring they were shaped and placed correctly.

Then, we created an investigation into teeth, looking at what different drinks do to our teeth. We used eggs to represent the teeth.
