Welcome back to the final and extremely busy term of this year. Below is the timetable for this term and the topic page which outlines some of the things we will be learning this term.
Pilgrims of Hope
As part of our Catholic Social Teaching, we became pilgrims of hope on our visit to the beach. We enjoyed writing messages of hope and creating our own display of hope for others to read as they went along the beach.
RE
As part of our RE leaning, we have thought about the types of communities we are part of and how we are part of the Christian Community. We have then found out how the church was born by learning about the Apostles and how they spread the Good News. We looked in particular at some of these important Apostles and the work that they did.
English
The children have loved reading and immersing themselves into our book for this term, The Tear Thief. We have created our own tear fairies and thought about the types of tears they could collect and where they would put them before writing our own persuasive piece of writing based around the book.
Maths
The children have worked hard in trying to tell the time to 5 minute intervals whilst continuing to improve telling the time to o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter too the hour. We spent some time revising our knowledge of place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions before finishing the term by learning and using the knowledge of position and direction.
The children have continued with their daily mastering number which is really having an impact on their understanding of number.
Science
The children have loved this term's topic of living things in their habitats, exploring the outside environment to find living things and hunting for different micro habitats that exist in our world outside. They thought about what these habitats provide and what the habitats are like and the living things that live their. The children have found out about food chains and how they link together with each other for species to survive. The children enjoyed creating their own living species and how the features they have which enable them to survive. We finished the term by planning and making our own Bug Hotels.
History
The children have dived straight into the topic of flight on Sheppey. They have created timelines on the history of flight before learning specifically about Flight on Sheppey and its importance on the development of flight. Our Flight workshop enabled us to link our drama and music skills to enhance our understanding. We finished our topic by designing and making our own model aeroplanes.
Art
The children have been able to link their art and science by creating different types of sculptures. We have used the outside natural environment to create various sculptures, building on the skills we learned last year.
Computing
The children have used the programme of painting on the computer to learn about different styles of art and painting to create their own paintings of these styles. We have also used the an online programme to create using sounds inline and their own compositions.
Music
The children have had fun investigating the beat and rhythm in various types of music.
Sports Day
The children had an exciting Sports Day, where they all participated and every single person pushed themselves to try their hardest. They gave each other support throughout the afternoon, taking part in hurdles race, egg and spoon race, sack race, javelin throw event, an obstacle relay, water relay, tunnel ball relay and finishing off the afternoon with sprint running races. Well done to the Green team in year 2 who won in the class and the Blue team who won overall in the school.
