We are now almost halfway through the term and Year 6 have had a busy three weeks. To begin the term, they created a piece of writing - based on a short video from Literacy Shed titled Broken: Rock, Paper and Scissors - that contained dialogue to advance the action.
This term's RE unit is Called to Serve. During this unit we will focus on when we receive our invitation to be a part of God's Kingdom; the sacraments; and how we can serve God and be a living witness.
so far, the children have had two successful Art lessons, which are linked to our History topic of World War 2. During those lesson, the children looked at a few different pieces of artwork that depicted bravery. They explained how they thought the pieces represented bravery before creating a class mind-map on everything they thought bravery is. The following lessons, they created a plan for their own clay sculpture that depicts bravery; they then sculpted their pieces.
In Science, the children are learning are learning all about electricity. So far, they have learnt: how to connect simple circuits; how to use symbols to represent components; and they have investigated what effects the brightness of a bulb.
This term's History unit is World War 2. During this unit the children we learn all about the causes of the war and the timeline of events before moving on to rationing, the Blitz and the Battle of Britain. The children will also look how how the war affected Sheppey.
In week 3, we went to London to watch the West End musical Wicked. What a fabulous time we all had.
Last week, Year 6 had their last ever primary school Sports Day. The children had a fabulous time and created some wonderful lasting memories.
Rehearsals for our end-of-year production What A Knight are now under way and we can't wait for you all to come and watch it.
Next week Year 6 will be on their residential.. They will be taking part in numerous activities that will create lasting memories for them all.
Week 4
Residential: Day 1
The children have had a fantastic first day and have settled into their accommodation and their new surroundings nicely. Throughout the day the children have taken part in many activities: Vertical Assault Course, Crate Staking, Postman's Walk, Rafting and Wild Game. There's has been lots of fun and laughter from all.
Residential: Day 2
After a restful night's sleep, the children have had a fantastic day that has been full of exciting activities. Throughout the day, the three groups have taken part in: Zip Lining, Postman's Walk, Water Roller, Archery, High See Saw, Crate Stacking and Vertical Assault Course. To finish the day, all the children had a wonderful time singing songs around the camp fire before heading back to our lodge to watch the football.
Residential: Day 3
It's our final day and they children have finished off their activities with kayaking and paddle boarding. They've all had a wonderful time but I think they're looking forward to coming home.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
