The children have had a very busy term with lots of learning, extra activities, assessments and preparations for Christmas.
Advent Preparations
We created a class display to show the part of the Nativity story when the Shepherds were chosen and were visited by an angel and the sky was filled with angels. We thought carefully why God chose the shepherds to spread the Good News,
English
We began the term listening to, reading, writing and performing their own performance poems to the rest of the class.
The children then immersed themselves into the Little Red Riding Hood Fairy Tale and had fun innovating the story with their own characters.
To end the term the children have linked their learning to The Great Fire of London and used the story of Vlad the flea to write their own exciting recount of The Great Fire of London.
Maths
The children have homed their addition and subtraction skills at the beginning of the term using manipulatives, pictorial and abstract ideas to help them. We have then learned the names and properties of both 2D and 3D shapes, looking at the sides, edges, faces and vertices of shapes and how we can sort them by their properties.
The children have loved getting to grips with their maths mastery to help them get a better understanding of number which is helping them in their everyday maths.
Science
The children have loved the investigations that we have been able to perform whilst learning all about materials and their properties. We used our lesson on changing the shape of materials to make our Christmas decorations to sell at the Christmas Fayre. The children enjoyed using our English topic of Fairy Tales and the story of The Three Little Pigs to build and investigate which material would make the best house.
History
The children have really enjoyed learning all about The Great Fire of London. We have found out how the fire started, why it spread and what lessons have been learned form the fire. The children had great fun building houses from the time of the Great Fire and linked it to their art to add a moving mechanism.
RE
Our Re topic of Mysteries has allowed the children to look and think more deeply about the Story of Christmas and why God chose Mary, Joseph, The Shepherds and The Three Wise Men. We thought about why Jesus was special and how we can help spread the Good News of His birth. We thought bout advent and how we are preparing for this very special time.
The children have learned the Nativity story which has been further reinforced with our performance of the Nativity which the children have worked extremely hard to learn their words and the words for the songs in preparations for their performances.
Computing
The children have worked hard to learn the importance of coding and how we can use this in everyday life. They have had practice producing simple codes to make various objects follow different instructions.
Music
The children have used the time in music to learn and enhance the Christmas songs, adding actions, ready for the Nativity performance.
PE
The focus for our PE this term has been dance. The children have practiced and shown determination and resilience to produce various shapes and balances. They have learned to work with a partner and a group and then perform their balances and routines.
The children learned some valuable lessons about fire safety when the Fire Brigade made a visit to help us learn various ways in which we can keep safe from fire and what we should do if we ever encounter fire.
The children enjoyed Children in Need celebrations where they were able to dress up to raise money for an important cause.
The children had an amazing Harry Potter themed day where they learned how to play a form of Quidditch.
The children enjoyed making various Christmas items to sell at the Christmas Fayre.
