We created a display for our chosen part of the Nativity story. Did you know that the shepherds were the first visitors? Spread the Good News! Jesus is born!
We are using the book, 'Where the Poppies Now Grow' to inspire our poetry. We have learned the model text and will innovate this to write our own poems.
We visited Sheerness war memorial and the clock tower on 11.11 to look at the poppy wreaths and observed the silence to remember the fallen. Look at the History section to see some of the photos.
We have continued to learn about addition and subtraction this term and have used different resources to help us with our learning. We learned how to use a number line; we jump forward when adding and jump backwards when subtracting.
We have also learned about 3D and 2D shape. we looked for objects in school that reminded us of 3D shapes, we have sorted 2D and 3D shapes. We also made 3D shape towers and 2D shape pictures.
We have been busy making Christmas decorations for our school tree and the Christmas fair. We used our knowledge of materials to create decorations that are transparent, translucent and opaque.
We used our DT knowledge of hinges to make pop-up Christmas cards.
This term, our PE lessons focus on Dance. We have learned how to make shapes with our bodies - big shapes and small shapes by balancing on two feet.
We started our Computing this term learning about pictograms.
We learned that we can represent data using pictures and created a pictogram answering the question, 'How do you travel to school?'
We made our own pictograms on Purple Mash about our favourite fruits. We collected data and created and added it to the pictogram.
As part of our History and English learning, we visited Sheerness War Memorial and the clock tower to help us learn more about WWI. We looked at the names of soldiers from our local area who lost their lives during the wars and admired the poppy wreaths and crosses that had been laid to remember them. We then walked to the clock tower and observed the silence at 11 o'clockin honour of the servicemen and women who fought for us.
Remembrance - We learned what a poppy is and why people wear poppies at this time of year. We made poppies to remember the soldiers that have died or been injured during battle. Some of us have bought poppies to wear.
Maidstone museum visited Year 1 so we could learn more about toys. We learned what toys were made from in the past and even got to play with some old toys!
Our Music lessons focused on the annual KS1 Nativity. We learned seven songs and supported Year 2 as the choir. We also learned some classic carols which we enjoyed singing at the Christmas Mass in Church.
We received a visit from the fire brigade today and learned about fire safety. We were told which number to ring in an emergency (only and emergency) and how to stay safe by using a smoke alarm. We need to test smoke alarms once a week to keep us safe.
Children in Need 2024
We raised money for children in need in the United Kingdom and around the world. We came to school wearing non-uniform, spots or in Pudsey inspired clothing.
