Term 4

Week 6 - WOW what a busy week we've had! We had our last swimming lesson of this term and got our certificates in our celebration assembly. On Wednesday morning, we did our easter performance with year 4 to our parents and we was amazing! In the afternoon, we completed our CAFOD walk for hunger. On Thursday, we did our Easter Egg Hunt and it even started to snow so we was let outside quickly to enjoy it. On Friday morning, we went to Mass which was a perfect end to our RE topic this term. Hope all of year 3 have a lovely, refreshing, and safe Easter holidays!

Week 5 - This week, we have been busy practising our Easter performance with Year 4 next Wednesday 30th. In maths, we have continued with time and converting analogue and digital time. In English, we have been writing our character description of the Cat in the Hat. We started the week of by planning and pretending to be the Cat in Freeze Frames. In Science, we have been learning about the different animal categories; herbivores, omnivores and carnivores. In RE, we have been learning about the Readings that happen in Mass and made beautiful stained glass window to symbolise the Jesus dying on the cross ready for Easter.

Week 4 - This week, St Luke's has been working really hard! We started off with KCSP's Science Day as this week has been National Science Week. We had to investigate how to make bottles roll the furthest, and predicted what we thought would happen. We loved this and really got stuck in! We have started to learn the time in Maths on the analogue clock. In Art, we looked at different sugar quantities in food and the Traffic light guidance. We looked at the best kinds of crisps to eat that would be the healthiest according to the advice. We have also started practicing for our Easter Performance learning the song 'Sing Hosanna' and making palms leaves.

Week 3 - This week, year 3 finished writing their diary entries in the perspective of the boy from our story. Have a look at some AMAZING examples of work we produced! In Maths, we finished our topic of fractions and was using lots of different manipulatives and the computers to help us. In Science, we was looking at muscles and what their functions are - We even made our own muscle mechanism to see how they work. In RE, we continued learning about The Mass and why we go to mass. We looked deeper into The Last Supper and Luke 22:19 and spoke about why it is so important to be grateful. We made our own charity boxes in the hope to raise money and give back to someone as that is what Jesus does. We also had some collective worship time and reflected on the world and put some blessings into a cup. When it overflowed, we was shocked but we know that it shows that God overfills us with blessings too.

Week 2 - This week, was all about Ash Wednesday and starting Lent. We had a lovely RE lesson which was all about celebrating Mass and discussing the Last Supper. We went outside to look at what we can see that God made for us and then came back to class to see our class had been turned into a mass itself. On Thursday, it was World Book Day and we all came in in wonderful outfits. In English, we have started to learn about the features of a diary entry and started writing our own in the style of the boy from Cat in the Hat. In Maths, we have been introduced to our Fractions topic. What a better way to start than by Miss Morris bringing in cake and sweets so we could look at fractions that way. We also built our own class Fraction Wall. In Art, we learnt about safe ways to cut with knives and made our own fruit kebabs using the bear claw skill. In Science, we made our own pasta Skelton to make the human skeleton and look at the different sizes of bones. We also discussed vertebrates and invertebrates. In computing, we have been looking at spreadsheets and we made our own times table machine and realised the spreadsheet was like magic as it worked the sums out for us!

Week 1 - We have started off term 4 on a high! We are absolutely loving our new English book 'Cat in the Hat' and have been becoming familiar with the story and re-telling it by acting it out. In Maths, we have been looking at different ways to add 2 and 3 digit numbers. We have just been introduced to the column method ready for Monday's learning. In Science, we have started our topic of Animals including humans. We looked at how food helps animals and humans to survive and why it is important to have the right diet. This linked in well with the start of our food technology topic as we made our own eatwell plate, yet in science we made a plate of food for an animal and discussed why it is important they eat certain foods. In computing this term we are doing all about spreadsheets and data.
