Term 3

Welcome to Term 3! Please find below an outline of all the learning we will be completing this term.

In RE, our focus has been Jesus the Teacher. We learnt more about His early life, such as Him being lost and only found in the Temple, before moving on to how He picked His disciples. We thought about the types of friends we would like and then discussed how Jesus chose friends differently - He wanted everyone to be able to follow God so chose people that society didn't always approve of. Finally, we learnt about the ways in which Jesus taught people - especially through His use of stories.

We had an exciting afternoon of Maths for Number Day! We came together with year 5 and 6 to play a Times Table Rock Star battle - who could win the most games in an hour slot? We worked really hard as a team and came a very close third - year 5 only beat us by 5 points!

In Science, we've been studying animals including humans with a particular focus on the digestive system. We started by learning about teeth and what affects their ability to do their jobs (cola and orange juice were awful!) before learning about the process of digestion. We started with food and modelled it moving through our system - to make poo at the end! It was good fun - if a little gross! Finally, we looked at food chains, understanding how they work and that the arrow shows the transfer of energy rather than who eats what.

To complement our Geography learning, we travelled to Elmley Marsh near the bridge to leave the Isle of Sheppey. Here, we learnt about the native seaweeds and plants as well as bird spotting, beach cleaning and clay-sculpting plants and animals we'd seen. We had a great day learning about this wonderful habitat that is on our doorstep!

As Internet Safety Day was this term, our whole focus for Computing was Internet Safety. We learnt about phishing and how we must keep our personal data secure so people can't try to impersonate us. We played games about scams (Scam or Not Scam) and had great fun completing a quiz to check our learning.

This term, we have been learning about Textiles in D.T. Our textile artist was William Morris. We learnt about him making print on wallpapers and repeating the pattern multiple times. We then made our own prints which we carved from foam. After this, we printed on to fabric to see how the print changed before creating our final pieces.
