We started the term learning about Islam and how Muslims pray. We looked at objects Muslims use to help them pray.
Then we studied Families and Celebrations. We learned Bible stories about Jesus as he was growing including The Presentation and Jesus in the Temple. We learned about the church family and the Sacrament of Baptism.
This term we are studying the book Wombat Stew by Marcia K Vaughan. We made a delicious vegetable stew to kick start our learning. We cut vegetables and smelt the stew cooking all day before we were able to taste it at home time.
We will use Wombat Stew to support our writing of a narrative and poem.
This term, we will be learning about place value within 20 as well as addition and subtraction.
We have learnt to represent numbers with manipulatives such as Numicon, Base 10 and bead strings. We have used our knowledge of number bonds within 10 to help us recognise patterns in number bonds to 20. We also spent time in Year 2 with Mrs Dolman and in Year 3 with Mrs Holmes where we played fun number games.
A day all about numbers! We came to school dressed in numbers to recognise the fundraiser for the NSPCC.
We enjoyed lots of practical activities including doubles dominoes, and making doubles butterflies.
This term science is all about animals. Did you know that humans are animals? We learned that humans are mammals.
We learned about five animals groups and how to tell which group and animal belongs to - we classified animals into the five groups.
We also learned to identify animals by what they eat - we made carnivore, herbivore and omnivore poo!
Our Art this term is textiles and we linked our learning to Catholic Social Teaching by creating a collage of Sofia the sloth and planet Earth to show how we can be stewards of the Earth.
We linked our Geography learning on Australia and weaved coloured paper inspired the Aboriginal artist Bronwyn Bancroft, then we learned how indigenous people of Australia made baskets before weaving our own colourful baskets.
We travelled to Australia this term and were able to locate Australia on a world map in at atlas.
We learned lots about the animals that live there and nowhere else in the world. We studied the four main landforms as well as learning about some famous natural and man made landmarks.
We became 'maze explorers' as we learned about coding. We learned to give simple instructions by creating an algorithm and began to learn how to de-bug if there was an error.
Today we learned about how we can stay safe online. We learned about the importance of not giving away our identity online and made avatars to keep us safe online.
In RHE, we have learned more about our emotions and how we can begin to manage our feelings. For Mental Health Week, we discussed what makes us happy and sad as we focussed on, 'Know Yourself, Grow Yourself.' We talked lots about things we are good at, what makes us smile and what makes us happy. We learned about ways in which we can make ouselves feel better when we are feeling sad.
Today we had visitors in school who helped us learn about road safety and how to be safe near the side of a road. We learned how to stop and listen for traffic before learning how to cross a road safely.
