Welcome to Term 4! Time flies when you're having fun! See below for the wonderful learning opportunities Year 4 have had this term.
To help prepare for the coming of Easter and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, we've been busy practising our Passion Play. At the end of term, we performed this to the school and then our parents! It was really hard work learning our lines, our cues, the stage directions and the songs but we worked hard, as a team, and put on a brilliant performance.
To celebrate Easter, we held an Easter Bonnet Parade as a school. We had a fantastic time parading in front of our parents into our assembly, followed by a parade to our friends where the bonnets were judged and prizes were given to the best three. A brilliant time was had by all!
In RE, we've been learning about Jesus the Saviour. We learnt about the different parts of Holy Week, considering why the reality was different from what people thought would happen. We wondered if it would have been better for Jesus to be betrayed to the Romans or the Priests. We also went to St. Henry and Elizabeth to make the Stations of the Cross with Father Aklilu to help us understand about Jesus' journey to being crucified. We then had to decide the most important part of His journey and why.
We've been really lucky in Year 4 this year: the Living Eggs have been in our classroom! This is when we have eggs delivered in an incubator and watch the chicks hatch. This has been so exciting - we watched the first egg hatch during our maths lesson and by the next day, 9 had hatched!
Term 4 brings with it British Science Week! To celebrate, we joined up with all the other primary schools in our Trust and worked together to investigate the best material for making a wheel roll faster if we didn't have a tyre. We used a bottle to imitate the wheel and had different materials to test; we had to plan, carry out and report on our findings for the investigation. This was a full-on day of Science that was so much fun!
It's been World Book Day! We had great fun dressing up as our favourite book characters and visiting different other classrooms to enjoy reading with new teachers.
In Maths, we've been learning about multiplication and division. To help our understanding, when the numbers got too big, we used place value counters to help us to calculate.
In our main Science lessons, we've begun looking at sound, wondering what sound it and how it occurs.
In Food Technology, we started by looking at hygiene. To help us understand, Mrs Rowse made a sandwich and we had to give her "restaurant" and health and hygiene rating out of 5. Most of us gave -5 stars because she never washed her hands, she used mouldy ingredients and didn't clean anything! It was very disgusting!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
