Welcome back to Term 5. We hope you had a restful and enjoyable Easter break. Below is the timetable and topic leaflet which outlines some of the learning we will be doing this term so you can support your child at home.
RE
Out topic of Eastertide has enabled the children to start to learn about the important events that occurred after the Easter. We have started our topic by looking at and understanding the time the disciples first saw Jesus again on Lake Galilee by reading, writing and acting out the story.
We learned about the importance of the Paschal Candle and what it symbolises.
We have wondered deeply about what The Holy Spirit represents and what it means to us and how the disciples first recognised The Holy Spirit.
This term also covers the month of May where we celebrate the month of Mary. We celebrated this special lady in our lives in our class worship and made some flowers for her which we then made into a headdress to present to Mary in a special class assembly.
Our Liturgical dance of the disciples receiving the Holy Spirit.
English
The children have loved diving into the world of Traction Man, our class book for this term. We have immersed ourselves in the text by learning the actions for the story and describing the characters and settings throughout the book using expanded noun phrases, commas and speech. The children have then innovated the story by writing their own missions when Traction Man came to school.
Maths
The children have worked extremely hard to begin to understand fractions. We have worked on understanding what a fraction is and how we can recognise and find out halves, quarters and thirds of shapes and numbers.
Science
This colourful experimental topic of colour chaos has enabled the children to get their investigative hats on. We have carried out tests to help us find out about the importance of prediction, carrying out a fair test and finding out a sensible conclusion.
Geography
This term has enabled the children to build on their prior knowledge of finding out about our local area and Egypt which we have previously studied and comparing the tow places. The children are looking forward to a visit to the beach to learn hands-on what we have in our local estuary. The children still enjoyed a very cold and windy afternoon at the beach where we were able to see first hand the types of living things found at our estuary and the human and physical features at our estuary. They also helped to look after our local area and being stewards of the Earth by doing some litter picking at the beach.
Art
The children have started their topic on drawing and sketching by looking at the famous artist Michelangelo and used him as an inspiration to draw a live hand.
Music
The children have enjoyed finding out about the tempo and dynamics of music by listening and comparing different types of music and how it can be used to tell a story and add an affect to story telling.
Computing
We have been been building on our knowledge of presenting ideas form year 2 where the children looked at an E book to present a story. We have learned how we can create a quiz and and fact file to present ideas in a different way.
PE
The children have loved being able to get outside and do their PE in the warm weather this term where we have started to learn how to send and receive small and large balls in a variety of ways with control.
