Welcome to another busy term in year 4! Please see below for our leaflet to explain what we will be learning this term.
In RE, we've been learning about our Church Family. Initially, we learnt about what a community is and all the different communities we belong to, including our church community. We then learnt about the steps we can take to bring ourselves closer to God within our church community, called Sacraments. To learn the sacraments, we had to find them around the class and match them to their meanings and the order they happen. Next, we learnt about the liturgical calendar and what this means for us. Finally, we reminded ourselves of our Catholic Social Teaching values and how we can put this into practice for the good of our whole community.
This term has been Sports Day. We took part in seven different events, from Egg and Spoon Race to Javelin Throw and all manor of events in between. We then took part in running races for fun. A fantastic afternoon was had by all, with all of us cheering and helping our friends. Unfortunately, there can only be 1 winning team - and in year 4, that was red. Well done Red Team!
In English, we've been reading Oliver and Seawigs. In the Sarcastic Sea, Oliver, Cliff and Iris met a new Rambling Isle: before we learnt more about this island, we wrote and performed mood poetry to show what the characters were thinking about the new island. Was it friend or foe? What did it look like? Here we are, performing our poems.
In Maths, we've been learning to compare and order decimals, using place value counters and grids. We then moved this into money, learning about the different ways of speaking the same thing - in decimals we would say five point two four for 5.24 whereas in money, we would say five pounds twenty-four for £5.24.
In Science, we've been learning about Living Things and Their Habitats. We started by exploring different habitats, considering which animals and plants can live together and which can not; we then moved on to learning about how to create a classification key, using animals and then with plants.
In History, we've been learning about the Tudor Monarchy. We started by learning about the Battle of Bosworth, which we acted out with the main people involved, to find out how the Tudors came to rule England; then, we learnt how to create scaled time lines to show the main events - by pacing it out on the playground. Finally, we learnt about the different kings and queens, especially King Henry VIII, Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth I.
In Art, we've been learning about the sculptor Barbara Hepworth. We learnt about how tall her sculptures are (taller than people! She used ladders to create them) and how she used bronze, wood and stone to create them. We then recreated a single-piece sculpture and a two-piece sculpture, using clay and slip to join them. Finally, we designed and created our own pieces inspired by Hepworth.
This term, we were offered a workshop with The Lion King stage show! We followed a live lesson to learn a song and dance. It was really good fun.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
